Sevara Nazarkhan – Uzbekistan

It's perhaps contradictory for a singer to have been in a pop band similar to the Spice girls, and then to become one of the support artists on the latest Peter Gabriel tour. But the musical career of Sevara Nazarkhan is one of the most eclectic in Central Asia. Born in a family of musicians (her mother was a music teacher and her father promoted traditional uzbek music in Radio Taskent) Sevara studied singing and etnomusicology in the Conservatory of Uzbekistan. In 2004, she won the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music, as the best artists of Asia-Pacific. Her abilities with ancient persian instruments like the Dutar and her style, between pop and traditional uzbek music make her a rare but nice mix to our ears.

Blue king brown - Australia

The voice and guitar of Natalie Pa'apa'a and the bass of Carlo Santone were the only components of Blue King Brown in its beginning. Nowadays, the members of BKB are Salvador Persico, a percussionist with latin influences, Peter Wilkins on the drums, Emily G on the trombone and three backing vocals, Hayley Kramer, Nadee and Jess Harlen. This band regard themselves as socially aware and activist. They have performed on concerts that support causes like the liberation of Tibet, or the emancipation of black people.

Chocquibtown - Hip hop from Pacific region

When a journalist asked the members of Chocquibtown (Chocó, Quibdó, Town) how could they define their music, they answered: 'We are the folk for the new generations'. Chocquibtown, is a hip hop band that mixes different elements from the pacific region of Colombia (like marimba de chonta, tambora, and the singing of the cantaoras from Chocó) with rap music. This band, based on Quibdó, Colombia, is formed by the MC's 'Tostao' (Carlos Valencia), 'Goyo' (Gloria Ramírez) and Slow (Miguel Ramírez).

This first video is from the song ' Somos Pacifico', maybe one of the best known songs from Chocquibtown, and was filmed in Condoto, Chocó. The lyrics are about being black and born in this town, which is the poorest of Colombia.

Somos Pacífico (2006)

The second song, one of their first recordings made with a colombian reggae band, Kilimanjahro, is a cover from 'La palma del chontaduro' of Peregoyo y su combo Vacana, a traditional group from Chocó. This song is barely known, even to some of the Chocquibtown fans.

Lucina Lanzara - If light made sound, would you recognize it?

"May my voice be the sound of light". This is Lucina Lanzara's wish everytime before she sings. Born in Rome, Italy, she studied piano, classical guitar and singing. Although she describes her music genre as contemporary experimental mediterranean, she often performs jazz, classical and ethnic music. With a voice ranging up to 3 and a half octaves, she is looking for the essential mediterranean sound, studying the use of words to create atmospheres, climates and sonorities.

For live performances, as she puts it on her website, she prefers places with architectonic interest that favor the energy exchange between artists and spectators, thus becoming part of a whole.

Let the flux begin!

Hi, welcome to Sound Energy Flux! We created this blog to share with you all the music we like and the music we daily find. This music flux has run for a little more than a month now, but we have already learned a lot about music and we have discovered many awesome artists.

From one day to the next, the energy flux has travelled around the world from Japan to Colombia, from Lebanon to USA, or from New Zealand to Israel. This makes us feel like travelling everytime we add a new artist. We are amazed at how the music from one point is related to the music of the next. We guess this happens because we all live, after all, in the same world.

Aladdin's "A whole new world" in 17 languages

There are songs that alter our senses, awake memories or create emotions, even if we don't understand what the band says in its native language. Sometimes melodies, rythms and musical atmospheres make a language in itself. Whether you are from Mali, Germany or the moon, we hope you find here something of your musical taste. Let the flux begin!
