Living for long periods with Mexican indigenous people, Zepeda learned about their culture, philosophy and, of course, their music.</p> <p>He describes pre-Hispanic music with this words: </p> <blockquote>In the pre-Hispanic cultures, music had a sacred dimension, the instruments themselves were thought to communicate the mortal with the eternal: the caracol, the flute, the huehuetl and the teponaztli, were voices whose origin was attributed to the Gods. The instruments had arrived from the world of deities to cheer up the perishable world.</blockquote><br /><div class="video">Señor Fuego Azul<br/><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tEM4xjles9Y?fs=1&hl=it_IT"></param><param name="showinfo" value="0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tEM4xjles9Y?fs=1&hl=it_IT&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br/><br/> Agua Celeste<br/><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HcIKLmGhMkc?fs=1&hl=it_IT"></param><param name="showinfo" value="0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HcIKLmGhMkc?fs=1&hl=it_IT&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div>Sideralhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06883140617187280810noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5067487971754357772.post-38587192200646759532010-10-18T20:52:00.004-05:002010-10-29T15:02:57.461-05:00Donis - Ethno-Electronic Experiment<p><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0qe3Oc6AcK8/TLz8hLESWsI/AAAAAAAAAjo/mdBXFl8zblc/s1600/l_25f29f3c22643aeb08c7a26222bf73f1.jpg"><img style="float: right; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; cursor: pointer; width: 160px; height: auto;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0qe3Oc6AcK8/TLz8hLESWsI/AAAAAAAAAjo/mdBXFl8zblc/s320/l_25f29f3c22643aeb08c7a26222bf73f1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529572089340779202" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://www.donis.lt/">Donis</a> is a fascinating journey through Lithuanian folk with the electronic musician Donatas Bielkauskas as the guide. Born in Tibet, the melodies of her songs come to her during meditation sessions. Many of her albums were spontaneously recorded  live in the place she was at the moment, often sacred places like meditation caves in Tibet, sacred gardens or Buddhist monasteries. </p> <p>After co-founding one of the largest Tibetan pharmaceutical companies in China, in an attempt to promote the endangered Tibetan culture, Yangjin felt that she had to do more, so she donated almost all of her assets to charity. A few year later, she began to hear the melodies from the deities, so she started composing spontaneously, recording 5 albums in the following years.</p> <div class="video">Dharma Flower <br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pjf2aGI7GoE&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pjf2aGI7GoE&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div> <br /> <div class="video">Be As You Are <br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qnppKeytspA&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qnppKeytspA&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div>Sideralhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06883140617187280810noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5067487971754357772.post-1714224235020136902010-01-19T01:55:00.001-05:002010-01-20T11:01:30.898-05:00Nneka – Europeanization Of African Roots<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_NC1-YOlGp5U/S1VXaL2Nh5I/AAAAAAAAALI/xhA5WhEQ0wQ/s1600-h/nneka%2020%5B12%5D.jpg"><img style="display: inline; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px" title="nneka 20" alt="nneka 20" align="right" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_NC1-YOlGp5U/S1VXa_M8xoI/AAAAAAAAALM/SBu0Fp5gv0k/nneka%2020_thumb%5B6%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="160" height="240" /></a>When <a href="http://www.nnekaworld.com/us/home">Nneka</a> travelled to Europe from Nigeria, her homeland, she wanted to study singing. She  grew up in Warri, the Delta region of Nigeria, where she had contact with gospel music. Nneka migrated at the age of 18 to Germany, the country where her mother was born. There, she studied Anthropology and later, she met <a href="http://www.myspace.com/farhot">Dj Farhot</a>, a producer who lived in Hamburg who helped her to define a musical style. Despite the fact that her songs have European and Anglo elements, she has included some rhythmic basis in her tunes and has incorporated <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igbo_people">Igbo</a> lyrics to her songs, since she and her father speak that language.   <div class="video"> </div> <div class="video">Heartbeat  (2008) <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Qx3nLWEvGgU&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Qx3nLWEvGgU&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div> <div class="video"> </div> <div class="video">Kangpe  (2008)<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sHV3_QDbp0Y&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sHV3_QDbp0Y&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div> Dollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01556561012925332547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5067487971754357772.post-86354686016373772322010-01-15T09:38:00.001-05:002010-01-15T09:38:35.440-05:00Fabrika - Russian Devushki<p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_0qe3Oc6AcK8/S1B9593n0ZI/AAAAAAAAAg4/0JQfHMYnCdo/s1600-h/c25a1ebd397d35e16f83a29a485b3863%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px; display: inline" title="c25a1ebd397d35e16f83a29a485b3863" alt="c25a1ebd397d35e16f83a29a485b3863" align="right" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_0qe3Oc6AcK8/S1B96vvH5GI/AAAAAAAAAg8/O08cZDMZltE/c25a1ebd397d35e16f83a29a485b3863_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="240" height="180" /></a> From the beautiful country of Russia, comes the pop girl group Fabrika. After their participation in a talent show called Star Factory, where they finished second, they have released two albums, and a third is coming in 2011. Initially formed by four members, one of them left for unclear reasons (to me :P ). Their pop style is markedly influenced by Russian traditional music and sometimes, traditional clothing.</p> <div class="video">Gadalka (2007) <br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WXWq7sB5k3s&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0&hq=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WXWq7sB5k3s&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0&hq=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div> <br /> <div class="video">Romantika (2008) <br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wj3DJT3cMmQ&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0&hq=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wj3DJT3cMmQ&hl=it_IT&fs=1&showinfo=0&hq=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div> Sideralhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06883140617187280810noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5067487971754357772.post-85484145108690763302010-01-14T09:30:00.001-05:002010-01-14T09:34:49.750-05:00Alexandre Lima - Reggae - Electronica - Psychedelia<p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_0qe3Oc6AcK8/S08rCChkoAI/AAAAAAAAAgw/up4nkXrz4rA/s1600-h/alex%20victoria%20street%5B8%5D.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px; display: inline" title="alex victoria street" alt="alex victoria street" align="right" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_0qe3Oc6AcK8/S08rCpnrnhI/AAAAAAAAAg0/t4rOP0JBITY/alex%20victoria%20street_thumb%5B31%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="240" height="226" /></a> Released independently, <em>Rádio Experienza</em>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/alexlimaradioexperienza">Alexandre Lima</a>’s first album, is full of experimentation, not stopping himself in just one genre but exploring the possibilities of well conceived fusions. Karin, who captivated me with the vocals in the <a href="http://soundenergyflux.blogspot.com/2009/02/royksopp-norway.html">Royksöpp</a>’s song <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLpkXtM-VI8">‘What Else is there?’</a> , recorded her first album in 2009, simply named Fever Ray. </p> <p>This album brings us unusual and dark sounds, inspired by the chronic insomnia which tormented Karin after the birth of her daughter. Her songs, rhythmically varied and dense, sound to me almost like ritual chants, as they have an unusual atmosphere. This can be seen in the following video, directed by the Danish Martin de Thurah. </p> <div class="video">When I grow up (2009)<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4F-CpE73o2M&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4F-CpE73o2M&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object></div> <div class="video">I'm Not done<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Sewd37tx0W8&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Sewd37tx0W8&hl=es_ES&fs=1&showinfo=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></div>Dollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01556561012925332547noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5067487971754357772.post-66974682948210092392010-01-11T00:15:00.003-05:002010-10-29T15:06:40.338-05:00Curupira - Aphrodisiac Colombian Music<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_NC1-YOlGp5U/S0qz-_7OfcI/AAAAAAAAAI4/oL6dfDS55AY/s1600-h/Curupira-1%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 5px; display: inline" title="Curupira-1" alt="Curupira-1" align="right" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_NC1-YOlGp5U/S0qz_hoT-sI/AAAAAAAAAI8/Ep4TdpMKMtI/Curupira-1_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="240" height="188" /></a> <p>The vibrant sound of the <a href="http://www.lablaa.org/blaavirtual/musica/blaaaudio/compo/fernande/images/gaitas.jpg">Colombian bagpipes</a>  (or gaita, if you prefer that name) and the voice of Malpelo, a traditional singer from Cartagena and the lead voice of this band, are the elements that I first loved from <a href="http://www.myspace.com/curupiracolombia">Curupira</a>. Fifteen of his fellow students died, and he was hospitalized for seven months. </p> <p>This event left a deep mark in Jackson’s life. His lack of self-confidence and depression increased steadily after a series of events following the recording of his first album, which was simply titled <em>Jackson C. Frank</em>. </p> <p>The death of his first son caused his depressive tendencies to increase to the point of being committed to an institution.
